In this post, I’m going to be reviewing the Revlon Realistic Shampoo and Conditioner. The Revlon Realistic range isn’t affiliated with Revlon, the cosmetics brand. A company called Amka Health and Beauty have licensed the Revlon Realistic name from the brand.
As some of you may know, I have been natural for just over a year now. I decided to stop relaxing my hair because I wanted to see how well it could grow in it’s natural state. I do relax my edges from time to time though (call me a relapse relaxer if you will), so I couldn’t wait to review this fabulous range of natural hair care products.
Every product in the range contains Black Seed Oil. Black Seed oil is a certified beauty staple: it has numerous benefits for the hair, skin and nails. The promise of the entire Revlon Realistic range is that it will strengthen the hair and eliminate breakage. Of course, time will tell if the products actually do the latter, but so far so good…
As soon as I looked at the packaging, I saw that the shampoo is sulfate free and I was glad because shampoos with sulfate dry out the hair and the skin. I can’t help but mention the packaging again because subtly luxurious about it. The shapes aren’t too overpowering and I also like that there is a clear description of what the shampoo does.
The shampoo has a strong consistency. I didn’t have to use lots of it to get a good amount to wash my hair with. I noticed my hair felt softer immediately and it didn’t tangle (as it usually does). Also, this shampoo does an amazing job at leaving hair moisturised and fresh. My hair was revived and had a natural looking shine that I haven’t seen in ages.
I’ve been using this shampoo for about three weeks now and will continue to do so. One thing I struggle with greatly is shedding – sometimes when I wash my hair, I feel like I’ve lost half of it, but I can honestly say I have experienced minimal shedding with this product. A bonus is that the black seed oil smells absolutely amazing! Herbal who?
As I don’t relax my hair, conditioning it is a VERY important part of my hair regime. I expect a conditioner to soften and strengthen my hair really. I was impressed with this one because it is very thick, so I didn’t need a lot of product to cover my hair. It did have a tingly feeling which was quite pleasant because that’s how you know the product is working. I’m also crazy about the smell. This conditioner smells amazing – I couldn’t stop smelling it! It was very fruity and sweet so I guarantee you that my hair was smelt super fresh after I had dried it.
I will definitely continue to use this product again as I’m very impressed with the results. My hair does feel and look stronger and I’m looking forward to seeing the difference this range will make to my hair in the coming months.
The Revlon Realistic Strengthening Shampoo is available from the Revlon Realistic website and is priced at £6.99.
The Revlon Realistic Strengthening Conditioner is available from the Revlon Realistic website and is also priced at £6.99.
Can I also say that I’m also loving the Edge Control in this range. It’s clear, it leaves no residue and it has a long lasting hold too. This gel keeps my edges in place for the whole day (even during that temporary heatwave we had in the U.K). I’m really impressed. It does a much better job than the Pink Oil gel that I originally use on my edges (this is how you know I’m a 90’s baby hehe).
The Revlon Realistic Edge Control is priced at £5.99.
My overall take? I think there’s always room in the market for natural hair products and I’m glad that the Revlon Realistic range is in existence. It’s affordable, chic, does what it says on the packaging and is perfect for all Afro hair types too! What’s not to love?
I hope you have enjoyed this review. Have you tried any products from the Revlon Realistic range yet? What did you think?
