Its Kelle’s Space’s Top 10 of 2018

The past year has been a great one, a reflective one. I can’t believe it has been a year since I launched Its Kelle’s Space. Some of you may know that I started my first blog in 2011 and then left the bloggersphere for a while, but it feels so good to be back. One thing I knew is that I wanted my next blog to be different from Fashion, Love and Life.      I wanted a platform where I could educate, inspire and empower women to be great. Over the past 12 months, I hope I have inspired you all in one way or another.

Here’s a quick recap of what you loved most on Its Kelle’s Space:

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Review – This was the first ever product review I did on the blog and I had no idea how popular it would be over the past year. Revlon have done a lot to channel diversity in their campaigns and through their product offerings, so I was glad to let you know what I thought about these wonderful lippies.

Revlon Colorstay Brow Mousse and Brow Pencil Review – And another one *DJ Khaled voice* – I reviewed these brow products from Revlon back in January. Brows are definitely a struggle and I think that the fact there are so many new brow products in the market doesn’t make it easy as well. Sometimes, all you need is a pencil, a little bit of mousse and you are good to go!

10 Things You Can Do To Reinvent Yourself After A Break Up – In this post, I teamed up with the lovely Wini Boansi to discuss getting your groove back. Break ups are so hard and at the time we teamed up on this post, I was still struggling with break up trauma so the fact that so many of you were able to relate was heartwarming.

Topshop Limited Edition Mini Lip Bullet Trio Review – It’s another review! (I think you guys are trying to tell me something). I received these adorable lip bullet trios from Topshop and I just had to let you all know what I thought about them. If anyone from Topshop does happen to read this, please introduce some more colours to the collection.

Signs It’s Time To End A Relationship – Dealbreakers! In 2018, I think everyone had to re-evaluate their expectations, boundaries and everything in between. In this post, I talk about signs it is time to walk away. Women especially tend to ignore red flags in the hope that things will change but the reality is that they never do. I’m glad I was able to share such a powerful message with you all.

MPW Steakhouse Bar and Grill Review  – This was the start of a change for Its Kelle’s Space. I decided to branch out into food reviews. I had the pleasure of going to Marco Pierre White’s restaurant in Folkestone in Kent. It is such a beautiful town. It’s a shame my cousin and I didn’t go on a sunny day but as you can see in the review, the food was the biggest highlight.

Juvia’s Place The Saharan II Palette Review – There isn’t an article about makeup for WoC that doesn’t mention Juvia’s Place. Investing in their Saharan II palette was something I had always wanted to do. The colours are so rich, so pigmented and they look amazing on darker skin.

Superdrug Vitamin C Review – Vitamin C has had a few moments this year. If Vitamin C isn’t a part of your skincare routine, you are missing out! I reviewed this serum from Superdrug a few months ago and I used the opportunity to drop a few gems about the benefits of Vitamin C on the skin. I will be reviewing another serum early next year (and yes, one of the ingredients is Vitamin C).

Lessons Women Can Learn From The #FraudBae Story – We all know what we were doing when the Fraud Bae thread started to ignite conversation on the Twitter timeline. Although the events were entertaining, this story opened a lot of women’s eyes to the fact that it is very easy for a man to take advantage. I think the biggest lesson to all women from this story is to get your standards in check and DO NOT lower them for anyone or anything!

Open Marriages: Do or Don’t –  This post was another collaboration with Wini Boansi, who is a YouTuber. The funny thing about Open Marriages was when I promoted this post on Twitter, one user criticised my choice of words and Wini also had to step in because she also got some of the heat. After that, I was so close to deleting the post but I reminded myself that we all come from different walks of life so our viewpoints won’t be the same. Some of you may remember that Wini was for open marriages and I was against them. The moral of this post is that it is possible for two people to have different views without ripping each others heads off. I hope to see more of that kind of energy in 2019.

What was your favourite post on Its Kelle’s Space and why?

Why The Meridian Grand Is The Perfect Wedding Venue

Weddings are such a joyous occasion but there’s no denying the fact that planning a wedding can be very stressful. From finding the perfect dress to making sure the venue you’ve chosen is suitable, getting everything right in the run up to your big day can feel impossible. Some of us have already made our minds up in regards to the type of wedding we would like to have. Some of us have already started planning every little detail (whether we are actually getting married or not).

In this post, I’m going to be talking about wedding venues. The Meridian Grand is luxury conference, wedding, banquets and events venue in London. As one of London’s best wedding venues situated in the North of the city, no stone is left unturned when it comes to assuring that your special day is one that you will remember for years to come. Here are some reasons why I think that The Meredian Grand is the perfect venue for a wedding:

grand_ballroom__button

A choice of ballrooms – There are two ballrooms in the venue. There is The Grand Ballroom and The Meridian Ballroom and both ballrooms can actually be combined into one space, so if you want a big wedding it would be perfect for you. One of the most important aspects of wedding planning is the guest list. Once you and your fiance have agreed on who you would both like to invite, you can then sort out the rest of the finer details.

Event management – Planning an event is not easy so you may decide to hire someone to help you. Although event planners don’t come cheap, lots of brides are choosing to leave their special day in someone’s else’s hands and who can blame them? 100% involvement with less stress? It’s a great idea. The Meridian Grand have a designated event coordinator available on your big day. They specialise in turning your dreams into a reality. Be weary with relying heavily on a event planner, make sure that you are happy with everything that is being suggested. After all, it is you and your partner’s big day.

jewish-wedding-decor_4_114118

Decor – One thing I like about this venue is the decor. All ballrooms are dedicated to a high standard. You are able to have the theme of your choice and customised lights are also available. The ballrooms have such a luxurious look and a virtual tour is available. When it comes to decor, coordination is key. Also, don’t be afraid to keep things simple. Sometimes going all out can take attention away from other things. Don’t forget to do some research to get a clear idea of what it is you want.

Cuisine – This is one of the most talked about aspects of any wedding. A part of celebrating the happy couple’s joy is by congratulating them, getting a glimpse of the bride’s beautiful dress and eating the food at the reception. At the Meredian Grand, you have the option of hiring your own caterer. A state of the art kitchen is also available so you won’t need to worry about the food getting cold. The reason why I think hiring a caterer is the best option is because there’ll be a lot more variety on offer. Food from event venues won’t really give you the freedom to have a certain preference. You get what you’re given and this isn’t necessarily for everyone.

vp5_2250__slide

Another place I think would make a perfect wedding venue is Botleys Mansion.

What’s your ideal wedding venue? What would you like your wedding day to be like? What tips would you give to brides-to-be?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! I love to hear from you so do leave a comment below and don’t forget to like and subscribe!

How To Keep A New Relationship Exciting

No matter how long you’ve been with your partner or how much you love them, sometimes things can feel a little boring. Relationships require a lot of work and you and your partner will need to work together to spice things up. The honeymoon phase will come to an end and as we become accustomed to our daily routines, it is natural that a relationship will suffer a little. Here are a few tips which may help you keep things interesting:

gif 1

Surprise each other

A little spontaneity never hurt anyone, so don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. Stop doing the same things over and over again as this can be a little predictable. Routines can kill a relationship so take it in turns to plan date nights or cook together or even try a new activity.

fp

Don’t be afraid to flirt from time to time

When we think of flirting, we don’t really associate the term with relationships but the key to keeping your relationship alive may lie in a flirty exchange. I’m not saying flirting will get you and your partner out of every rut but compliment each other from time to time, kiss more and inject some fun back into your relationship. You should never really stop dating your partner, and that goes for men and women. Keep doing the things that attracted you to them in the first place.

tenor

Travel together

Research has actually proven that couples who travel together have stronger relationships. When you feel you’re both happy with your relationship, don’t say no to a little bae-cation. Sometimes a change of scenery can be so refreshing. You don’t even need to get on a plane to do it. Websites such as Wowcher have some really nice cottage breaks. Spa breaks are also a great opportunity to pamper yourselves and just relax.

img_7653

Communicate

Nothing can kill a relationship like a lack of communication. It’s so easy to do yet so many of us struggle with it! One of the most important things in a relationship, especially one that is new, is that you are able to communicate freely with each other. You shouldn’t feel like you need to hold back. Spend some time each day indulging in conversation. You don’t need to plan what you’re going to talk about. Sometimes the best conversations are the ones that come naturally.

Socialise together

Another thing that can help you get the most out of your relationship is socialising. It is important that you and your partner are able to spend time apart but it is essential that you are familiar with the company they keep. Now, I’m not saying their friends need to be your friends but something as simple as hosting a mutual gathering can bring some fun into your relationship.

giphy-downsized (31)

Set goals

Last but not least, set some goals. Your partner should be your number 1 fan so work towards things together. Whether it’s going to the gym more often or saving money for a project. Support each other so that your goals can become a reality.

How To Make Your Cash Last Until Payday

You’ve probably looked at the title of this post and thought about all those times you have struggled to make your cash last until the next time you get paid. It’s amazing how payday can bring out the best and worst in some of us: the waiting, the complaining, the impulsive spending and let’s not forget the moment when you realise that you have barely nothing to survive on the week before (yes, it has happened to us all!).

mny

In this post, I’m going to be sharing tips on how you can make your monthly pay last. As with all blog posts of this nature, you are not obliged to follow each and every tip I give.

Always remember to do what is best for you.

Apps

Using apps to keep track of spending has become one of the most popular ways of budgeting. Monzo is one of the most popular mobile only banks out there right now. You do get a debit card as with other banks and you are set a budget based on what you earn. When you are close to spending that budget, you are notified by the app. Another reason why I like Monzo is because customers are also provided with a breakdown of what they are spending their money on. Seeing what you spend your money on month after month is also a great cause for reflection. Think about those daily coffees you grab every morning on the way to the office. Are they really needed?

mny1

Savings Accounts

My favourite way of making my cash last is using savings accounts. Whenever I get paid, I always save as much money as I can. Saving accounts aren’t for the faint hearted though, you do need a lot of discipline. If worst comes to worst, you can dip into them but think about whether you really need what you’re trying to purchase or whether you can access any money off deals. An alternative approach to having a savings account is opening one with another bank. Do some research to find out which banks have the best interest rates. Be aware that some accounts will require you to deposit a certain amount of money each month. If you know you can’t make such a commitment, just get an account where you can pay in as much money as you like. And another thing…when you open a savings account, DON’T request a debit card. You don’t need that kind of temptation in your life.

mny2

Family

If you struggle with making your pay last, something you could do is give what you want to save to a family member. You could even set up a direct debit, have them keep the money for you and then access the funds if and when you need to. Of course, make sure you trust the family member who you would be giving such responsibility to. Also, in different cultures, there are cash saving schemes that you can join. As with some accounts, there is a requirement that you pay the same amount every single month. In my country, this is called Njangi and is defined as a money saving system. In the Caribbean, the same system is called a Pardner. Consistency is the most important thing with such schemes so do ensure you are financially stable.

giphy

Use Cash More Often

With the rise of contactless payments, the art of tapping has never been more appealing. Within a split second, you’ve made a purchase. Card payments are a big issue when it comes to controlling finances because there is no control. Try to make cash payments as much as you can so its easier for you to know what you are spending. One thing with banks as well is they don’t take your money away on the day of the purchase, so before you know it you have money going in and out that you can’t keep track off. If you like to shop online, you may want to consider having a separate account.

giphy (1)

Open More Accounts

As mentioned in the previous point, you may benefit from having different accounts. For example, if you are saving to travel you may need an account or if you are saving money for a car, you may need an account. Never underestimate the process of putting a little bit of money away every month. Once a year or so goes by, you will have quite a bit stashed away. When it comes to saving, something is better than nothing so don’t beat yourself up if you can’t save as much as everyone else. With time, you WILL get better.

giphy (2)

Limit Shop Visits

I’ve talked about this in my post about mastering the art of saving and I believe it really does help make your cash last longer. Limit your shop visits! Try not to go to the shops two or three times a week. For food shopping, make a list and then get what you need at once. If you’re a snacker, include snacks in your weekly shop. When it comes to other necessities, you may want to save up over a period of a month or so. With personal expenditures, I would also recommend making a list because it is so easy to get carried away especially if you are near a large shopping centre.

giphy (3)

I hope these tips have been helpful and remember that if you do find yourself strapped for cash, then bad credit loans are an option. Nobody should feel financially challenged so there’s absolutely nothing wrong in asking for help.

As always, I love to hear from you all so feel free to share your own monthly saving tips by leaving a comment below.

Also, do let me know what you think of these types of posts. Would you like me to do some more in the near future?

Tips for Creating Content For Your Blog

Last week, I asked fellow bloggers how long it takes them to write a blog post.

thinking

Here are the results:

Everyone is different and content creation isn’t something you’ll get to grips with immediately. You will toy around with many ideas/themes before you find the one that is right for your blog. In this post, I’m going to share some tips about content creation with you all. You don’t need to follow them intently but these are some things that have worked for me.

gif

Ideas – As soon as you have an idea for a post, don’t start blogging. Take some time to think about it. Think about what you will say, whether you need to change your writing style and most importantly, if your readers will be able to relate to your content. I think as bloggers we sometimes need to remember to focus on the quality and not the quantity. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve started to write a post and decided to trash it soon after because I just felt it wasn’t particurlarly something that my readers needed. Stats are also a great way to determine what your readers like. Check them regularly so you are aware of which posts are outperforming others.

gif1

Plan – Once you have an idea for your post and you are confident that your readers will be enticed, you need to create some sort of plan. Think of it like writing an essay (yes, I know no-one wants to remember their uni days). You’ll need to introduce the post and share what your intentions are. Now, this is where you need to be honest with yourself. If you are a rambler (we all have a tendency to be from time to time), then I highly recommend using bullet points. For example, if you are reviewing lipstick, you may want to focus on longevity, colour, price and packaging. By focusing on specific points, you are able to get a better understanding of what you would like to let your readers know.

plan

Word count – What I’m not going to do is tell bloggers how many words their blog posts should have. It is completely up to you, however, depending on the type of post you create, you may want to think about your word count. In my case, when I’m reviewing a product, I try not to exceed 500 words (550 max). If you’re reviewing a destination, like I have done with BerlinParis and most recently, Venice, you’ll feel inclined to write more because obviously there is more you’ll need to share. There are exceptions but trust me when I say, keep your content concise. Think about the topic and your niche and plan whatever it is you want to share (only if you need to).

word

Stay worry free – We all aspire to be the world’s best content creators. In a perfect world, we’d be spending a LOT more time on our blogs, creating content, sharing it 24/7 and receiving an immense amount of comments and likes. The reality is that none of this is possible (unless you are a full time blogger and many of us are not). You can do the absolute most but your blog will still take time to grow. Trust the process, connect with others who are on the same journey as you and be patient. There are so many groups out there for bloggers, my favourite is this one. If you have any concerns or queries, you can leave a post on the group’s wall and someone will get back to you in no time. The blogging community is a very special one. You’ll be surprised at how many supportive bloggers there are out there.

hug

Do you have any challenges when it comes to creating content? If so, then what are they? Maybe you have some words of wisdom to anyone who wants to develop with content creation? I always love to hear from you so please do leave a comment below.

I hope you have enjoyed this post.

How To Put On Lashes: For Beginners

I’ve been meaning to create this post for ages because whenever I’m out and about, at least one person will ask me how I apply my lashes. If anyone told me last year that I’d know how to apply lashes independently, I would have laughed in their face!

It is actually quite easy to apply lashes but it will take a few attempts before you get it 100% right so don’t give up! In this post, I’m going to share some lash application tips with you. I’m not an expert, these are simply some things that have worked for me, that’s all.

Lash bands are everything – I find it easier to apply lashes that have thick lash bands. When the lash band is thick, I feel like I’m able to have a firmer hold on the lash. I do struggle with lashes that have thin bands. So for first timers, I do recommend buying lashes with a thick band. Kiss Cosmetics sell some lovely ones. I’m not affiliated with the brand in any way, I just think their lashes are awesome. If you missed my review, you can check it out here.

Mirrors – In order to apply lashes, you need a mirror. Even the pros can’t apply them without one. Personally, I prefer to use the mirror in my room to help me. I can’t hold a compact mirror with one hand and apply a lash with the other. My poor coordination skills won’t allow me to do that. You may find this works better for you as well. Stand close to a large mirror in your bedroom or bathroom, tilt your head up slightly and then place the lash just above your lash line.

500x700mm Cambridge Clotted Cream Framed Mirror

Getting your lashes to stay put – This is the hardest thing to do. I’ve seen so many comments from beauty enthusiasts who have given up because of this. If you have tried to apply the lashes before, make sure you remove any glue residue. Also, place the lash where you want it to go (without glue) before you actually put it on (with glue). This will help you because you’ll know exactly where you want it to be. Lastly, I try to hold the lash at either end (separately) for about 10 seconds. After that, I don’t touch them, I just wait for them to dry (approx 3-4 mins). It’s important to let your lashes dry so try not to touch them as they are drying.

Image result for applying lashes black girl

Style does matter – I would definitely recommend researching different styles before you buy lashes. Also, do take your face shape into consideration. There are styles that have been made specifically for a certain face shape. In addition to this, you can always look for reviews on lashes that you may be interested in. Sometimes reading or listening to the views of others can help you make a choice.

Patience is a virtue – As I said in a earlier point, you’ve got to be patient. If it’s your first time wearing lashes, don’t try and apply them when you’re in a hurry because you will probably get it wrong. Take your time, use a good amount of glue (not too much) and ensure you can see what you are doing properly and I’m sure you’ll be applying lashes in no time!

My favourite lashes are from Oh Your Lash – I’m wearing style 901 Silk Lashes. If you do see anything you like on the Oh Your Lash website, then use the code ‘KELLE15’ for 15% off your purchase.

As always, I love to hear from you all and I do hope you have found these tips useful.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment and I will do my best to answer them.

The Trouble With Dating In 2018

In this post, Josh, a relationship blogger, will be talking about what he believes are the challenges of dating in 2018. Although It’s Kelle’s Space is a blog aimed at women, I think it’s refreshing to have a man’s perspective on the topic of love and relationships. I hope you all enjoy reading this post as much as I did.

giphy-downsized (83)

Unrealistic Expectations

One of the biggest dating challenges in this society is unrealistic expectations. I think that a lot of people want to experience the love they see in the movies and on social media and expect it to happen immediately. Some people are almost oblivious to the fact that true love is a process, not an entitlement. You cannot find or maintain great relationships, they are built over time. Unrealistic expectations make finding true love challenging because people are looking for perfection and not suitability or potential.

giphy-downsized (78)

Unlimited Options

Dating apps becoming more and more popular, so there’s no denying that people on the dating scene are spoilt for choice. The option to date as many people as you want without having to commit has an instant appeal. All you need to do is swipe right or click ‘like’. The fact that dating has become so trivial is definitely to blame for people feeling entitled, in my opinion. Nobody seems to actually think about what they want first, before they put themselves out there.

tenor

The Wrong Focus

Too much emphasis has been placed on looks or perception, and with the rise of social media, this is only set to get worse. We live in a society that is obsessed with looks. We are constantly told how to maintain our looks and also how to improve things we are not happy about. The world is teaching us that as long as you look great on the outside, you will be fine, but whatever happened to making sure we are beautiful on the inside too? Physical attraction will always fade away so it’s important to seek substance so you can connect with someone beyond a physical level.

gif 1

Final thoughts

Finding the relationship of your dreams is possible. What you want does exist! Patience and timing are everything. Also, remember that it’s just as important for you to mirror the qualities/traits you would like in a significant other. Have something to bring to the table. We all go through different seasons in life and this is why it’s important to know what you want. You may be ready to settle but you may get a completely different vibe from the person you are dating.

You can’t hold on to anyone who doesn’t want to be held. Don’t compromise on your self worth and respect just because you want someone to lay next to at night. Actions do speak louder than words, so pay attention to what you see. The eyes don’t deceive. Commit to the person who is on the same level as you and wants the things you want in life and love. Find someone that accepts you the way you are and is willing to build something solid with you. This kind of relationship is truly worth the wait.

Waiting is never easy, whether you are single or dating, so use this period in your life to focus on being the best person you can be so when the time does come for you to settle, you are ready.

Tips For Travelling Solo

Solo travel is on the rise. More people are now opting to travel alone and women are actually more likely to travel alone than men. Last week, I took my first solo trip to France. As nervous as I was, I pushed all my doubts to one side and ended having an amazing trip.

gif 1

My main reason for wanting to travel solo was because I felt like it was time for me to step out of my comfort zone. I’ve always travelled with friends and I do tend to rely on them a little so I knew it was time to put my desire for travel to the test and step out alone. If you missed my post about my solo trip to Paris, you can check it out here.

Travelling alone isn’t for the faint hearted but if you, like me, enjoy your own company then it should be a pleasant experience. I’m going to share some tips that I think you may all find helpful:

Be confident

Confidence is everything, especially when you step out on your own. You don’t want to give off an obvious tourist vibe as it may attract some unwanted attention. I was quite lucky to have familiarised myself with France’s travel system quickly so even when I did lose my way a little, I was back on track in no time.

giphy-downsized (71)

Familiarise yourself with routes/surroundings

Look for things that will help you remember where you are, especially if your navigation skills aren’t great (like mine). Remember that monument or take note of how long it took you to walk down that hilly road. It’s the little things like this that will hopefully stop you from getting lost.

giphy-downsized (77)

Plan ahead

Try to create an itenary a few days before you travel. Think about what you want to do, where you would like to go and how long it will take you to get from one place to another.

gif 3

Be aware

When I was in Paris, I went to The Louvre. As I left the museum, a man began to follow me. He stopped me and insisted on buying me food and then proceeded to follow me as I walked around. I felt so uncomfortable and was able to run into a nearby shop and stay there for a while. The sales assistant did tell me that men regularly approach women in the area surrounding the museum. Thankfully, this individual stopped following me and I was able to get on with my day.

giphy-downsized (28)

Prioritise

Once you have landed in your destination, try to sort out your travel for the duration of your stay first. It sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many people go on holiday and don’t do this.

giphy-downsized (75)

Start your day early

When travelling alone, try not to be out too late. Wherever you go, try to be back at your hotel or where you are staying before it gets dark.

giphy-downsized (79)

Take lots of pictures

Don’t forget to capture memories. I love to take lots of pictures whenever I’m away. It’s always nice to have something to refer to when you are reminiscing.

gif 4

Get insurance

Of course this applies for when you are travelling with someone but in the excitement of planning, it can be very easy to forget insurance.

I hope you’ve found these tips helpful. Do feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you’d like to see more travel content on the blog.
